HOW TO LESS AND EARN MORE IN 2025

1. Raise your prices

Let’s start with an easy way to be able to work less and earn more – raise your prices. I recommend that business owners should review their prices at least once a year, so if you haven’t reviewed your pricing in the last year do so. Whilst reviewing your pricing you might realise that an increase is possible, which would automatically help you to be able to work less and earn more.

For example, if you are a web designer who is charging £4,000 for a website and on average it takes you 40 hours to complete a website. By raising your prices by 25% from £4,000 to £5,000 you would be able to make money whilst creating fewer websites. For example, if last year you created 20 websites and generated £80,000 you could now only have to make 16 websites to generate the same £80,000. So even if you aimed to make 18 websites, that would mean you generate £90,000 (an extra £10,000), whilst hopefully being able to work 80 hours (2 whole weeks) less.

2. Create a new scalable offer

Whilst raising your prices is a great way to work less and earn more the reality is there will come a point where if you raise your prices too high you won’t be able to find enough clients. So if you’ve raised your prices and are still looking to earn more another thing to consider is creating a new scalable offer.

In the web designer example, there is a direct relationship between time worked and money earned. In order to work less and earn more you need to change that relationship. You want to look for ways to increase the amount you can earn in that hour or get to a point where you can earn money without having to work at all.

Depending on your area of expertise and skill there will be so many ways that you can package up your knowledge and skill in order to help other people. And if your aim is to work less and earn more then you should seriously look to have an offer where you aren’t working one-to-one, but instead are working one-to-many.

There are lots of ways you can work one-to-may but some popular options include:

  • Membership
  • Live Events
  • Retreats
  • Workshops
  • Mastermind
  • Group programme
  • Digital product (including online course)

There is no universal best scalable offer for a business. What is best will depend on your business goals, how you like to work, who you like to work with and your offer suite. I go into further detail about how to choose the right scalable offer here.

3. Spend less time on your marketing and sales

As a small business owner, the likelihood is that the time you are currently spending working aren’t limited to just the work you are doing with clients. You are likely to be spending some time on marketing and sales activities – and for some business owners this is a considerable amount of time. So focusing on how you spend less time on your marketing and sales can help you have gain some time back to either use as you will or use on working in a way that is income-generating.

Focus on marketing that has a longer life span

One reason why small business owners often spend a lot of time on marketing is because their marketing mainly happens through social media. Whilst organic social media marketing is attractive to small business owners, because it is free, it is very time-consuming. A social media post will last from a day to a week depending on the platform you use and that means you are constantly having to create new content. Instead of relying on social media you want to concentrate on marketing that will last a longer time such as creating long-form content that is optimised for search.

Automate

Another way to spend less on your marketing is to look into automation. The days of having to do everything by yourself are long gone. There are so many ways you can use automation so that things happen automatically without you being involved – once you’ve done the setup. For example, if you have been running a live webinar and are happy with it you could use software like Kartra so that you automate the process so people can sign up, watch a recording, and then have a sequence of emails sent afterwards. This can mean you automate the whole sales process.

Run digital advertising

Another option is to run advertising. You can do this on most social media platforms, as well on search engines, and even on specific websites (or groups of websites). The major advantage of digital advertising is once you’ve got it set up it will run continually and only needs a small amount of monitoring and adjusting. If you’ve got to the point where you are confident with your marketing and understand how it converts running digital advertising can be a very smart way to spend minimal time on marketing, but keep on generating new clients and customers.

Outsource

Last, but not least, whilst marketing and sales are essential for a business, that doesn’t mean you have to do it. An easy way to spend less time marketing your business and generating clients is by outsourcing to someone else altogether.

4. Plan how you’ll work in advance

In order to work less and earn more you need to be as efficient and effective as possible – with all the hats you wear in the business. In order to do this you need to plan how you’ll work in advance.

I highly recommend that you design your week, fortnight or month so there is a regular rhythm for how you work. Having blocks of time for specific activities it will enable you to be able to batch tasks (which maximises efficiency), whilst also ensuring you have clarity over what you should be doing when.

On top of this, you should get into the habit of quarterly planning. I recommend that business owners take a day out once a year for annual planning and then 2 hours per quarter for quarterly planning. Combining annual planning and quarterly planning will mean you have clear goals and are able to decide what you want to do to achieve those goals. Choosing your strategy and approach in advance saves masses of time, and will help maximise impact from the time you are working.
