WHY YOU SHOULD NOT IGNORE SEO EVEN IF YOU HAVE A SMALL BUSINESS
SEO is great for making new people aware of your business (increases visibility)
As a business owner, it is likely you want to increase the online visibility of your business and find a way to get your business in front of new people. SEO is great for making people new people aware of your business, and people who are likely to be interested in your business.
Compared with other types of marketing the beauty of search marketing is that when use correctly you aren’t interrupting people but actually giving them what they want. People go to search engines to ask questions. They are looking for specific information, knowledge, answers or solutions.
As a business, you can think about what your ideal client or customer would searching for. You can then create content that specifically addresses that search query. By optimising that content it will mean that people who have never heard of your business can find you via search and because you are providing what they want they are likely to think favourably of the business and / or buy from your business.

It is great for driving high-quality traffic
All of us want more traffic on our website and our content to be consumed by more people. But not all traffic is the same. One of the reasons why SEO is great is because of the quality of traffic it drives. As long as you correctly optimised your content it should be that the people who are being driven in your business’ direction are genuinely interested in your content, services or products.
You can easily measure how SEO is performing
Ideally, in business, you want to know what is and isn’t working. With the majority of online marketing you are able to measure how it is performing and SEO is no different. By using a tool like Google Analytics you are able to see what percentage of traffic is driven to your website via search. In addition, by using Google Search Console you will be able to discover exactly what keywords people are typing, when your business is appearing, average rank position and click-througb rate. All of this information can help you to optimise your content even further in the future.
It enables your content to have a longer life and bigger impact
If you are creating long-form content for your business (think blog posts, YoUtube videos etc) then optimising that content for search will give it a longer life and enable it to have a bigger impact. Usually with long-form content the peak of exposure is at the very beginning. When you first publish a new video or blog post it will appear at the top of your profile or blog feed and so people will see it if in those places. It is also likely that you’ll promote this content across your other marketing channels, such as email and social media. But afte the initial flurry of activity that content will sit mainly unloved.
By optimising your content for search you will be helping your content to have a longer life. For example, in my business I have been blogging since 2018 and I have a number of blog posts that are numerous years old but get new visitors every day because of SEO. And with these extra eyes on that content your content will have the opportunity to have a bigger impact for your business.

Ranking for keywords via SEO can save you from paying for Pay-Per Click (PPC) ads
The quality of traffic driven via search engines is such good quality that many businesses will pay to advertise their services against specific keywords. This happens on search engines like Google, Bing, YouTube and Pinterest. A business can run adverts against specific keyword.
But by focusing on SEO your business may be able to avoid running PPC adverts because it is able to rank organically in search engines for desired terms.
Now your business might not be able to rank for all of your desired keywords (some are very competitive), but there is no reason to not write a list of keywords you’d like your business to appear against and then see which ones you can attempt to rank for organically and then pay for ads for the remaining.
It can be free
Small business don’t have endless marketing budgets and as a small business owner who specialises in helping other solo, micro and small business owners I get that. SEO doesn’t have to cost you anything. Yes you can pay for a professional or agency to do your SEO, but you can also do it yourself. There are plenty of free or cheap trainings out there to help you learn SEO techniques that then can be applied whether you are creating blog posts you want to rank on Google, publishing videos you want to rank on YouTube, or pinning Pins that you want to rank on Pinterest.
That’s it! You now know why you should not ignore SEO EVEN IF you have a small business.
