6 Reasons Why You Should Schedule Your Social Media Content

Are you currently creating and posting your social media as and when? If so, it is likely that you are wasting valuable time and not creating the best content you can. Find out below the 6 reasons why you should schedule your social media content in advance.

Reason 1 – Scheduling your social media makes it easier for you to be consistent

When you are running social media accounts for a business it is important to be consistent. Now consistent means different things to different people and on different platforms, but once you have determined what consistent means to you, you need to stick to it. Now trying to remember that schedule is a waste of your time and life happens. Maybe your phone runs out of battery. You have an emergency and totally forget. Scheduling in advance means you never have to worry about breaking your schedule and appearing inconsistent.

Reason 2 – Scheduling your social media content is a better use of your time

Recently I shared a post called ‘How to save time by batching your marketing content’. If you haven’t already read it then go read that. I explain how batching will make you more productive and I encouraged you to batch your social media content creation. Now if you have batched your social media content that you might as well batch the task of scheduling it to. This will mean once a week, fortnightly or maybe even month you will sit down and schedule all of your posts. Now that is a much better use of your time then a few minutes here, there and everywhere.

Reason 3 –  Scheduling allows you to take some time off

For most business owners running their social media channels means they are posting every single day and they can’t take a day off. I am a big fan of having a digital detox and having holidays where you switch off. Scheduling your content in advance will mean you are able to take breaks with no breaks in consistency from a social media perspective.

Reason 4 – Scheduling your social media will allow you to reduce the amount of time you waste scrolling on social media

I don’t know about you, but I know when I post something onto Instagram I can’t help but then having a little scroll. Now that may seem innocent, but say you have a schedule of 5 tweets a day, 1 Instagram post a day and 3 Facebook posts a week. And let’s say each time you post you spend 5 minutes scrolling. That is 225 minutes per week gone! Why bother putting temptation in your way when you can just schedule your content in advance.

Reason 5 – Scheduling your social media content will allow you to be more strategic in what you are posting

When you are posting on social media for your business you are meant to be strategic. However, when you are trying to post something in a 5-minute gap on a stressful day it is easy to forget that. By scheduling your content in advance you can ensure that your content is in line with your objectives for the channel, the right tone of voice and has the appropriate call to actions.

Reason 6 – Scheduling your social media content will allow you to get into a regular reviewing cycle.

One of the reasons I encourage people to schedule their social media content in advance, and in batches, is because before each batch they can evaluate the performance of the last batch before you move onto scheduling the next. Social media is an ever-changing environment and it is important that you are reviewing what posts are performing well, finding the similarities and then using those lessons to inform your future content.

Have I persuaded you that you need to start scheduling your social media in advance? If so, start by trying to schedule one week at a time and see how that feels.
