INSIDE ‘THE POWER OF SMALL’
In Part One: The Comfort Trap the reader is introduced to the idea of the comfort zone and the self-care zone. The idea is that for you have manageable change you need to move outside of your comfort zone, but not your self-care zone. This forms the basis of the book and explains why they focus on making small changes. In this section, you are also introduced to one of the core Power of Small tools, which is 5-minute breakouts. Making change and pushing yourself outside your comfort zone isn’t easy so the book then talks you through why it is important to take these actions and helps you focus on creating a bigger life and keep the end goal in sight.
Part Two: From The Inside Out focuses on your mind and emotions. It highlights the thinking traps that people get into and the ways you can get out of them. It helps you see your emotions in a new light and identify your internal characters.
In Part Three: The Power of Small Toolkit the focus is on beginning to apply the Power of Small tools. Early on you are given questions to help identify which area of your life you should be focusing on before then being shown lots of different tools you can use.
Part Four: Make The Power of Small a Way of Life brings everything together and helps you to see how you could use your new knowledge and tools in your long-term future. 9 key takeaways are highlighted and then you are given a 4-step formula, FUEL, that you can return to in the future.
FINAL THOUGHTS FROM CHARELLE
I choose this book to be the book of the month for PropelHer’s Book Club in May 2020. This was during the COVID-19 pandemic and I was drawn to the subtitle ‘How to make tiny but powerful changes when everything feels too much’. Now whilst the tasks you are given are small and can be done in minutes, rather than hours, there are still a lot of tasks so it could be overwhelming for some people.
WHO WOULD I RECOMMEND READS THE POWER OF SMALL
The book is designed for people who want to make a change in their life with limited time so if you fit that profile then check it out. I also think it would be a good book if you are looking to do inner work. There are numerous discussions and tasks around your emotions and your mind, so if you want to delve more into how your mind is working and how to make changes in that department then this would be a good choice.
