SOCIAL MEDIA POST IDEAS FOR ACCOUNTANTS AND BOOKKEEPERS

1. Answer a Frequently Asked Question

Are there questions that you are always getting asked? If so why not create a social media post answering that question? If you’ve been that question multiple times then it’s likely there will be other people in your online community who also would love to know the answer. And if you’ve taken the time to create an answer to that question they you can always direct people in that direction when you are asked again.

2. Import Date Reminders

If you operate in one country then there are likely to be key date reminders that will apply to the majority of your audience. For example, I’m based in England and the tax year ends on the 5th April. As a business you could create some posts before that deadline reminding people that it is happening soon and what they should do in preparation.

3. Tips

If you want people to follow your social media account then you’ll have to ensure your account is valuable in some way. Providing tips is a great way to do this.

4. Interesting Facts

Know some facts that your audience would find interesting – share them!

5. Comment on recent news (that impacts the economy as a whole or the niche your serve)

A great way to show your online audience or community that you are up-to-date with what is happening in the world is to occasionally have posts that are related to recent news. This isn’t about creating random posts in order to ‘newsjack’, but adding meaningful commentary on news that impact your business or your clients.

6. Behind-the-scenes

What is it really like running an accounting and bookkeeping business? People are nosy and you’ll be surprised that what you find boring others will find interesting. It will also help to humanise your brand. You can share your daily work routine or share a picture of your workspace.

7. Reviews

If your business is reviewed on a third-party site like Google or Trustpilot then copy those reviews and share them on your social media accounts. This can be a great way to share the great work you’ve been doing, but also encourage your clients (who are also following you) to leave a review too.

8. Share a case study

Reviews are great, but to go even further and show what working with your accounting or bookkeeping business is like do a case study. Share information about what it was like before the client worked with you, what you helped them with and what the outcome was.

9. Highlight a team member

If you’ve got a team then highlight a specific member of a team. This might be when they’ve done something specific such as winning an award etc. Or you might decide to highlight a different team member every month.

10. Share a link to your newsletter sign up form

Do you have a mailing list and do you send out a regular newsletter to your mailing list? If so, you should encourage your social media followers to join your mailing list. Social media is borrowed land and your account can easily be hacked, blocked or deleted. As a result, building a strong mailing list should be a priority and you should be regularly reminding people to sign up.

11. Recommend a book, podcast or other third-party resource

If you know of a book, podcast or something else that you think would be interesting and / or helpful for your community share it.

12. Share the business’ mission, purpose or values

Too often a business’ mission, purpose and values appear on a website and that’s it. Social media is a great place to share that information too. It helps give people a greater understanding of the why behind the business, and will help people to connect with the business more.

13. Highlight a client

If you’ve got clients that are happy to be highlighted then share them online (especially the clients you love).

14. Share key points from a piece of long-form content

Hopefully the business is also creating long-form content whether that be as a blog post, podcast episode or YouTube video. If so highlight the key points from that long-form content and share them in a social media post with a call-to-action that they can find out even more in the blog post, YouTube video or podcast episode.

15. Run a poll

If you are using social media to market your business you need to be careful that communication isn’t one-way with you broadcasting message after message. Running a poll gives your audience the opportunity to engage. It can help you get to know your audience better and even inform future content decisions.

16. Share details of a free download or lead magnet

Does your business have a lead magnet or free download? If so, share that on social media. Let people know what it is, how it will help and how they can access it.

17. Awards

If you are shortlisted or win an award be sure to share that on social media. Don’t think of it as bragging. Let people know about your business achievements.

18. Industry Events

If you go to any industry events you can share that on social media. You can post beforehand saying you’ll be there or you can post afterwards with key learnings or reflections.

How to go from having social media post ideas to having a social media content plan

As you can see there are lots of things you *COULD* post on social media and more choice can result in more overwhelm and less action.

To succeed in marketing your accounting or bookkeeping business on social media you need to get the balance of your posts right, which is where planning in advance comes in.

Planning in advance will enable you to be able to put the right combination

I highly recommending planning the content for your accountant or bookkeeping business on a monthly cycle.

By planning on a monthly basis you’ll be able to look at the month ahead and first plot in all of the timely posts and then afterwards fill the rest of the spots with everything else.

You can find out more about my monthly content planning process here.

And if you aren’t planning your content in advance at the moment, and you have no idea where to start, grab yourself a copy of my free content marketing plan workbook by filling in your details in the form below.

That’s it. You now have lots of social media post ideas for accountants and bookkeepers.

If you were short of social media post ideas before hopefully you aren’t anymore. The reality is there is a lot you COULD post about, but if you are posting on social media to market your business then you need to get the balance right so it is engaging enough to build an audience, but also has the right content to encourage people to sign up and become a new client.
