Let’s be real, there is a big difference between being a money coach and having a successful money coaching business.
Money coaching is a growing industry. Every year more people are deciding to become a certified money coach and then start a business. And then on top of that there is an increasing number of financial educators and financial content creators (hello #fintok) joining the space too.
Now I’m not saying this to scare you, but to be honest (I’m all about honest and tough love). The fact is that the landscape is only going to continue to get busier and therefore, if you want to be able to cut through the noise, be seen, be heard and build a successful money coaching business you need to be consistently marketing yourself and marketing yourself in the right way.
In many ways there are lots of similarities. When it comes to creating a marketing strategy for any type of business the areas to consider are the same. That is why if you’ve done a marketing programme, training or course you’d have been able to apply what has been taught.
However, money coaches face a difficulty that isn’t applicable to all coaches. They are working in an area that for some is still taboo. For many people around the world money is still a taboo topic (I’m from the UK and I was definitely brought up to not talk about money). Not only is money a taboo topic for some, but as a money coach you aren’t asking someone just to talk about money in general. You might be asking them to share all of your financial details with them.
This requires a massive amount of trust from the client and you as a business owner need to make it absolutely clear you are someone who not only can help them, but it is also trustworthy. And how do you do that – through your marketing.
I only offer 1-to-1 marketing services. I believe that every business is unique and because I focus on working with solopreneurs and super small business owners it is essential that I create a bespoke marketing (plan/strategy) that takes into consideration their business, their ideal client and the business owner.
My signature 1:1 Business and Marketing Mentoring Programme is for ambitious money coaches who are confident in the high-quality service they deliver but haven’t currently been able to build a business that allows them to fulfil their financial and lifestyle goals
The programme is totally personalised and based on the current business goals. However, it usually involves looking at branding, marketing channels, messaging, content creation, lead generation and the customer journey / sales funnel. My 1:1 Business and Marketing Programme is an application-only service. I only work with 6 clients at a time so require an application to be filled in and then we’ll have a call to make sure it is the right fit.

After marketing, money is my favourite thing to talk about. I’m the friend you come to when you have questions about salaries, pensions, credit cards, budgeting, investing etc.
When I first came across the idea of money and financial coaching I thought about becoming one (and it has crossed my mind many times since). However, I decided that I should stick within my true zone of genius (marketing) and help existing money coaches impact more people by increasing their visibility and working with more clients and customers.

- And whilst I always was good with the practical side of money (I think a love of maths definitely helped me) my mindset side definitely needed some work so I joined Denise Duffield-Thomas’ Money Bootcamp and continue to be a proud and active member of the community.
Charelle was the missing piece to my business, freeing me to focus on being CEO, Financial Coach and Creator. I’d laid so much groundwork but was overwhelmed which made prioritising, staying focused and pushing myself out of my comfort zone harder.

From the very first and very in depth 2hr session we covered a lot of ground and with Charelle’s guidance, I thought carefully and deeply about my business and my plans for growth. Together we devised a plan for the next quarter, complete with realistic actionable steps and targets along the way.
Even though our sessions are fortnightly, Charelle is available to answer any questions I have, bounce ideas off and offer support and guidance for anything I’m working on in between those sessions. Marketing isn’t something I’ve just decided to do recently. Marketing has been my profession for over a decade and I’m absolutely committed to being the best marketer I can be. I have a wide range of experience across marketing and advertising. That means when I make recommendations I focus on choosing what makes sense based on the business, the ideal client and the resources available to deliver the strategy. In most cases, this means the strategies I create for my clients are nothing like the strategy I use for my own business. No cookie-cutter strategies here.
