ABOUT ‘LINKED INBOUND’

At the beginning of the book, Sam explains how she has become “the most sought-after LinkedIn Expert in Europe”. She also explains that the purpose of the book is to be an “easy to understand, simple and practical guide”.

In Chapter 1 you are straight away introduced to the 3 main overriding principles to focus on when it comes to social selling and you are also shown the 8 Social Selling Strategies (which all begin with the letter P).

Chapter 2 walks you through the different parts of your profile and how to make the most of them. Then Chapter 3 looks at recommendations, with there being a focus on receiving them and giving them.

Now that the basic have been covered it is time to move into the prospecting process, which is split into two parts in the book. The book shows you how to build your network with warm people (aka people you know) and then building it with a cold audience.

Having a great profile and filling your pipeline is great, but this book is about social selling. Therefore, you will need to be creating posting and engaging on the platform. To help you get some ideas around what to post Sam shares her 12 different content themes and even shares which one is her favourite. Sam also walks you through the different styles of posts and gives you some best practice tips to help your posts perform well on the platform.

The majority of the book is focused on your personal profile, but in Chapter 9 you learn about setting up a company page and in Chapter 10 you learn about LinkedIn Group.

Most of the advice shared in the book can be applied with a free LinkedIn account but in Chapter 11 Sam discusses what you get with a Premium account and with Sales Navigator to help people understand whether the investment makes sense for their business.

Then in Chapter 12, Sam shows you how to plan to use the platform. To be successful on the platform you need to consistently use it and Sam shares her recommendations for daily, weekly and monthly habits.

FINAL THOUGHTS FROM CHARELLE

Overall, I was a little disappointed with the book. However, I think that is more to do with how much the book had been hyped up before I received it and the fact it is one of the most expensive books I’ve bought. As a result, my expectations were high. Sam is clearly very knowledgable about LinkedIn and the book goes into great detail, which means you can follow the steps yourself. I definitely picked up some great tips in the book and I love how Chapter 12 helps you to see how to use those tips in a manageable and consistent way. However, it is one of those books where because it is focused solely on a social media platform, which is constantly changing and growing, that I question whether a physical book is the best format for sharing the expertise.

WHO SHOULD READ LINKED INBOUND BY SAM RATHLING

LinkedIn Inbound has been designed to help anyone who uses LinkedIn to win clients. It doesn’t matter if you are in the B2B or the B2C space. Your history with the platform doesn’t matter either. So if you have never used LinkedIn before this would be a great book to get started, but even as someone who is fairly familiar with the platform you are still likely to find some nuggets to help you improve how you are using the platform. This book would be suitable for anyone who has to sell. This could be an entrepreneur or business owner is doing sales for their own business, or someone in the sales department of a company.
