Conclusion + Next Steps

At the beginning of the book, Meera clearly states the aim of the book, which is “not to make you the best in your expert niche, but to help you recognise where you stand and how you can boost your expertise in the eyes of people you want to serve – the people who, your business is for”.

Then Meera outlines her Expert Quotient. This is essentially the Meera’s equation and framework for being seen as an expert.

Expert Quotient = Knowledge + Authority Architecture + Marketability

The book then shows you how to build up the individual elements so ultimately you can improve your expert quotient.

Section 1: Picking Your Expert Niche looks at the difference between a target market and a niche. Meera then shares some tools to help you select your expert niche.

Section 2: Staking Claim To Your Expert Status With Knowledge
To be seen as an expert you have to have valuable content that demonstrates your expertise. Now valuable means different things to different people but Meera shares three characteristics to consider your content in relation. She then walks you through creating content for different stages of the marketing funnel and how to put together your Minimum Viable Content Plan.

Section 3: Leveraging The Authority Architecture
In this section, Meera talks about combining being a content creator and a content curator. She also gives you templates to be able to pitch yourself for others to write guest blog posts and to be interviewed. She also shows you other ways to build your authority through challenges, interactive content and self-publishing a book.

Section 4: Marketing Your Expertise
This section of the book suggests ways to build your social proof and credibility quickly. Part of this includes creating a Minimum Viable Social Media and Visibility Plan, which is broken down in the book.

Section 5: Building A Marketing Campaign
Meera walks you through creating a very simple 180-day marketing campaign before then sharing how you can differentiate yourself from other people in your industry.

FINAL THOUGHTS FROM CHARELLE

For months I had considered buying this book. Meera Kothand had appeared numerous times in my Pinterest Feed so when the bright yellow book appeared as a recommendation on Amazon I was instantly drawn to it. I reason I hesitated with buying the book is because I knew Meera had self-published a number of books and felt that she might be following the “a book is the new business card” methodology.

As soon as I the book arrived I was disappointed. I didn’t like the feel of the cover and the book felt very light. In total the book is 170 pages and written in a fairly large font so I read the book very quickly.

For me, the book didn’t have enough substance to warrant being a book. In my opinion, this book similar to Key Person of Influence by Daniel Priestley (read my review here), Expert Secrets by Russell Brunson (read my review here) and Youpreneur by Chris Ducker. All of these books are about building a business that is a personal brand or based on your expertise. They all provide questions for you to ask yourself and lay out a formula for success. However, in my opinion, the other three books mentioned do a better job than But I’m Not An Expert!

WHO WOULD I RECOMMEND READS BUT I’M NOT AN EXPERT!

As you can tell from my final thoughts I’m not a big fan of But I’m Not An Expert! However, just because a book isn’t great for me doesn’t mean it won’t be great for other people. For me this is definitely an introductory book. If you are an aspiring entrepreneur or business owner wanting to create a business within the expert or knowledge space then this book may be interesting for you. I think it would also be great for a person who prefers to read physical books than read online. Whilst I think most of this content can be found in blog posts, having the book means you have everything in one easy place.
