Are you an aspiring or current solopreneurs looking for the best business books to read? If so, you’ve come to the right place. I’m a marketing strategist that specialising in working with solopreneurs and I’ve been a book blogger for years. I can’t believe it has taken me so long to write this blog post.
When it comes to business books there are millions published and more released every day. When choosing my selection I tried to really focus on books that were right for solopreneurs. This means if it was a marketing book that I thought needed a team I didn’t include it. That isn’t to say it isn’t a great book, but just not right for this best business books for solopreneurs list.

Million-Dollar, One-Person Business by Elaine Pofeldt
If you are planning on staying a solopreneur (or at least not have a team of employees) forever then you should definitely read Million-Dollar, One-Person Business by Elaine Pofeldt. This book is filled with examples of how people have hit the 7-figure or million-dollar mark by themselves.
Too often the advice of growing a business focuses on outsourcing and building a team, but if you want to stay small there is nothing wrong with that and this book will help you to see how it is possible.

Hype Yourself: A no-nonsense DIY PR toolkit for small businesses by Lucy Werner
As a marketing professional it is easy for me to concentrate on marketing rather than press or PR. However, I truly understand press and PR can both be very powerful and this book will perfect for a solopreneur wanting to learn how to do their own PR. I read this book back in January 2020 and it quickly became a book I recommended often (you can check out the review here).

Expert Secrets by Russell Brunson
I’m a big fan of Russell Brunson. He is clearly as much of a marketing geek as me and I feel that in all of his books he delivers great value. In Expert Secrets, Russell is showing you how to become a leader within your industry. This is especially important for solopreneurs, where you are often the face of your brand and a strong personal brand will help you build a successful business. The second part of the book will be focusing on how to use your expertise to leverage sales online via a webinar and a sales funnel. However, even if you aren’t predominately online I believe reading the first two sections of the book will really help solopreneurs.

Oversubscribed by Daniel Priestley
Daniel has written a number of books for business owners and entrepreneurs including The Key Person of Influence. The reason I decided to recommend is because most peopled dream of being oversubscribed and never get to that point. In the book Daniel shares 7 principles that underpin having a oversubscribed business and then he walks you through his Campaign Drive Enterprise Method.

The 4-Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris
When I originally read this book I absolutely hated it. I didn’t understand why anyone would only want to work 4 hours a week. However, the reason I’m recommending it is because as a solopreneur your time is limited and the 4-hour work week is filled with tips to help you streamline your business. Tim sets out four steps and goes into great detail about how he implemented the steps himself and how you can do the same too. So if you would like to have a business that works mainly without you or even just start to find ways to take you out of the business more then this is a book for you.

Blue Ocean Strategy by W.Chan Kim & Renée Mauborgne
Most solopreneurs put off doing the gritty business strategy work. It can feel too corporate and one of the things you wanted to escape from. However, having a comprehensive business strategy is like building your house on strong foundations – it will make your life easier in the long-run.
Blue Ocean Strategy is a great business book for solopreneurs who feel that they are in an oversaturated market. The book will help you understand how you can differentiate yourself from the competition and put your business in a place where there is a good opportunity for growth.

You know what I consider to be the best business books for solopreneurs.
I specifically tried to focus on business books, but as a solopreneur it is also very valuable to read personal development books. As you grow your business will grow and as a solopreneur you should be prioritising setting time aside to work on your personal growth.
