Atomicon 2023 - Review and Takeaways

On Monday 12th June  2023 I headed up to Newcastle for Atomicon 2023. Having bought my ticket back in November 2021 I had waited a long time for the conference to finally come around, but it did not disappoint. Keep on reading to find her biggest takeaways and review of Atomicon 2023.

ATOMICON 2023: REVIEW AND TAKEAWAYS

Starting in style – Mass TikTok dancing

Given the number of business owners and marketers that head to Atomicon other smart people decide to do fringe events before and after the official conference. One of those smart people was TikTok consultant Penny Walker. She organised a mass TikTok dance challenge, which meant I kicked off my Atomicon adventure by dancing with 30 other business owners, right in front of The Gateshead Millennium bridge.

Given I had gone to the conference alone it was a fun way to kick off the conference and meant I instantly had something to talk about. Oh and I won the prize for ‘top moves’.

Check out the video here.

@charellegriffith It’s no secret that I LOVE to dance 💃🏾 And that TikTok stole my heart yesterday 😍  So you are likely to have seen me moving my body in a short-form video somewhere (usually in a sequin number).  But I get super jealous when I see videos where people are dancing with other people as it is something I rarely get to do 👯‍♀️ Which I’d why I was so excited today to kick off #Atomicon23 with a mass dance courtesy of @barbrusa_social It was soo much fun to be outside in the sunshine dancing with other people.  So how do you think we do? Takeaways from the sessions I attended

The 3 A-Holes of Email Marketing – Rob and Kennedy

If you’ve never come across the dynamic duo that is Rob and Kennedy then let’s say they aren’t your typical email marketers. The focus of their session was on making more sales from your email list and to do this by appropriately segmenting your list into three lists: Subscribers, Customers and Lost Customers. For each list there was a specific aim and all of your emails are designed to fulfil that aim.

Biggest takeaway: You need to convert new subscribers to become a customer as soon as possible.

Unsleazy Funnels for Real Humans to Enjoy – Melissa Love

In this session, Melissa talk about her own experience of building a business and how whilst she has a sophisticated 21-day funnel (that has been built over time), the real magic happens by adding in some ‘real human’ into the funnel. She shared some of the ways she adds in human elements to the funnel such as sending personalised videos to people and letting them directly WhatsApp her.

Biggest takeaway: Automation buys you time, but why not use some of that extra time to personally engage?

Ai Authority – Molly Mahoney

Ai is on the top of most business owners minds in 2023 and in Molly’s session, she shared how she is using Ai for content creation and content repurposing. The majority of the session focused on content creation and Molly shared how by adding ‘your weird’ you can ensure you don’t just end up with generic Ai-generated content that anyone else can post.

Biggest takeaway: To stand out in a world filled with Ai content you’ve got to own ‘your weird’ even more.

Beyond the Basics: Advanced Strategies for AI-Driven Content by Rob Lennon

In this session, Rob shared his Content Reactor process. This is a process that enables him to generate thousands of ideas for content. He walked us through the process step-by-step highlighting key parts of the prompts.

Biggest takeaway: In a world where hundreds of content ideas can be generated in less than a minute the real skill is choosing which ones to move forward with and effectively editing them.

How to Rock LinkedIn – Lea Turner

My relationship with LinkedIn has changed drastically over the last year and is now one of my favourite places to hang out online. Lea talked about the importance of being conscious about who you do and don’t allow into your community, focus on finding active users to connect with and that nurturing trust takes time.

Biggest takeaway: Treat LinkedIn the same way you would a coffee bar at your favourite co-working space

Review of Atomicon 2023

Normally I go to conferences and I’ll attend everything, but I had a different approach for this conference. As an attendee, you could watch replays so I decided I wouldn’t attend all the sessions, but focus more on being with people. And oh my gosh, between the pre-events, pre-party, in-between sessions and post-party I met A LOT of people

According to the marketing, Atomicon is one of Europe’s largest conferences and I can honestly say I haven’t been a bigger event in the UK for small businesses. Everywhere I turned I bumped into someone who I had spoken to online, but never met in person. For that reason alone I see Atomicon as a once-in-a-year experience, which is why I booked my 2024 tickets straight away.

As you can see there were lots of great speakers and opportunities to learn, but more than that the vibe was amazing. You can not describe this as a stuffy business conference. I mean the sun did shine bright in 2023 but honestly it felt like a holiday!

That’s it! You’ve heard my review and biggest takeaways from Atomicon 2023.

If you are a small business owner in the UK then you should definitely seriously consider attending Atomicon in 2024. I am an affiliate but as you’ve seen I thoroughly enjoyed 2023 and have already bought my ticket for the Atomicon 2024.
