ABOUT ‘THE ALCHEMIST’
Originally written in 1988. The Alchemist is a fable about following your dreams.
The story follows Santiago, a young shepherd, who feels that there is more to life than living in his humble home with his flock of sheep. One day he decided to follow his dream, which takes him on a journey across foreign lands. Along the way he meets people from different walks of life. Each person shares pieces of wisdom with him and he tries to fulfil his dream.
FINAL THOUGHTS FROM CHARELLE
Even though The Alchemist is a fiction book it had been on my to-read list for a while. It is a book I see recommended a lot. If you’re a regular reader of my blog you’ll know that normally I read and review non-fiction books. In fact, The Alchemist is the first fiction book I’ve reviewed (to be honest I didn’t realise it was a fiction book until I started reading it). However, the fact I decided to review it even though it is a fiction book is because I really think it is a book worth reading. Whilst it is a fictional story, I really enjoyed the lessons of the story. The book is also filled with beautiful quotes.
QUOTES FROM ‘THE ALCHEMIST’
“It is the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”
“Some like to just dream others like to realise it.”
“If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it. And if you improve upon the present, what comes later will also be better.”
“You will never be able to escape your heart, so it’s better to listen to what it has to say.”
“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”
WHO WOULD I RECOMMEND READS THE ALCHEMIST BY PAULO COELHO
I think The Alchemist would suit a number of different people. I think it is a great way for a non-fiction, personal development book lover like myself to be able to take a break and read a fiction book, but still feels as if there is value in what they are reading.
I also think it would be a great book for someone who normally reads fiction books but feels as if there is more they can achieve in their life. It would be a great book to put you in the right frame of mind to follow your dreams before reading other personal development books.
