Looking for some content ideas for your email newsletter?
Do you know that you need to be sending out emails regularly to your list but struggle to know what to write? Scroll down to find out 9 content ideas that you can use for your upcoming newsletters.
1. Connect to the calendar (Holidays, Awareness Days etc)
One of the first things you can do if you are stuck with that to write is check the calendar and see if there is anything you can write that is timely. Firstly are there any holidays (Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving etc). Then think of any dates that have specific activities on them (Halloween). Finally, check out awareness days and see if there are any upcoming awareness days that are relevant to your business.
2. Show the behind-the-scenes in your business
Humans are naturally nosey people and love the opportunity to see behind-the-scenes. Think about how you can share something with your subscriber about your business that you only share with them. Not only is this a great way to help people be more informed about your business, but by only sharing information this information with your mailing list it can help your subscribers to feel special and stay on your list.
3. Share your views on something important in your industry
Is there a topic that divides people in your industry or is there something very ‘on trend’ or ‘zeitgeist’ at the moment? By sharing your views, you’ll be making it clear to people where you stand on this topic, which will help them to consider the topic more if they haven’t decided their own views yet. Or if they already have made a decision it will help them know if you have similar beliefs / thoughts / opinions or not
4. Write something about your life
One of the advantages of being a small or solo business owner is that you can share your personal side in a way that big brands can’t. Writing something about your life is a great way to increase the know, like and trust factor. You are creating an opportunity for your readers to connect with you on a personal level, which might just help them choose you over someone else.
5. Share a case study of someone you have been working with
Do you have clients that have got amazing results? If so write about them in your emails. Using case studies is a great way to help your readers to understand what type of people you work with, as well as the work you do. Also, case studies act as social proof. It allows people to see others have got great results from working with you and helps them to understand the transformation they could get by working with you.
6. Explain the reason behind creating a blog, video or podcast episode
If you are creating an email in order to drive people to read your latest blog, listen to your latest podcast episode or watch your latest video then you should definitely consider sharing the reason why you created that content. By explaining the reason you’ll be able to give some context to the reader, but also hopefully increase their intrigue so they click on the link.
7. Reflect on something that has happened recently
This could be something personal or something that is in the media. Again this is an opportunity to be timely, whereas your other content may be more evergreen.
8. Include an infographic
Remember that an email doesn’t have to be just text. Infographics are great ways to quickly and visually share information with other people. You could create an infographic to summarise or compliment a piece of content you are directing people to or the infographic might stand alone in the email.
9. Ask your subscribers to answer questions or take a survey
Whilst you will mailing use your newsletter to provide information there is nothing wrong with occasionally using a newsletter to gain information. Don’t be scared to ask your subscribers to answer a question or to take a survey. A survey is a great way to understand your list more and make more relevant content, services and products in the future. Depending on your email service provider you might be able to ask a question in an email and the answers are fed directly back into your email software, which will help you to build the profile of your subscriber and be able to deliver more targeted content in the future.
